My sponsored walk from Kimmeridge to Swanage for the UK diabetes charity (6 June 2010)

It all started when I came across an article
headed “A stroll by the sea” in the March - April
2010 issue of Balance, the magazine of the
charity Diabetes UK.
“This is for me” I thought. I love the South West
Coastal Path and have walked several stretches
in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset. The first time was
well over 50 years ago, when, as a Boy Scout, I
hiked from Poole to St Alban’s (aka St Aldhem’s)
Head to earn a merit badge.
I looked at the list of 71 sections. Some seemed
to easy - this was supposed to be a challenge
after all! Others were too far away. I settled on the
13.3 mile Kimmeridge to Swanage section as it
seemed a proper challenge and was close to
Bournemouth where we could stay with family.
In the end it was a tad tougher than expected and
the last couple of miles were more like “A stagger
by the sea”. However I raised £606 in total, so a
little staggering was absolutely worth it.
I am incredibly grateful to all those who donate
money to this cause. Thank you from the bottom
of my heart to all my sponsors and to those who
turned up with lunch, encouragement and
sympathy for sore muscles.
I hope you enjoy the photos on the next few
pages.
